There are 815 million people in the world that go to bed hungry everyday, and FAO’s Zero Hunger mission aims to bring this staggering figure down to zero. The 4 ingredients that can make this happen are:

  • Food security
  • Good nutrition
  • Sustainable agriculture and
  • Poverty eradication.

The competition is divided into 4 age categories: ages 5 to 8, ages 9 to 12, ages 13 to 15 and ages 16 to 19.

Contestants have to describe a Zero Hunger Hero they know or have seen on TV or in the news and describe their favourite Zero Hunger initiative. Also include any new actions that FAO has not suggested for its Zero Hunger mission. The contestants will have to draw their own Zero Hunger mascot in the poster and say what this mascot would help with in the contestant’s neighbourhood.

Fifteen posters in each category (60 posters in total) will be selected for the shortlist by the screening committee. These 15 shortlisted candidates will each receive a certificate. Three winning poster designs will be selected by a jury in each category and the top 3 poster designs in all 4 categories will be announced on the World Food Day website.

Winners will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a surprise gift bag. Winners will also be promoted by FAO offices around the world and on FAO social media.  Winning entries will also be featured in an exhibition at FAO headquarters in Rome.
