The competition is divided into 4 age categories: ages 5 to 8, ages 9 to 12, ages 13 to 15 and ages 16 to 19.
Contestants have to describe a Zero Hunger Hero they know or have seen on TV or in the news and describe their favourite Zero Hunger initiative. Also include any new actions that FAO has not suggested for its Zero Hunger mission. The contestants will have to draw their own Zero Hunger mascot in the poster and say what this mascot would help with in the contestant’s neighbourhood.
Fifteen posters in each category (60 posters in total) will be selected for the shortlist by the screening committee. These 15 shortlisted candidates will each receive a certificate. Three winning poster designs will be selected by a jury in each category and the top 3 poster designs in all 4 categories will be announced on the World Food Day website.
Winners will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a surprise gift bag. Winners will also be promoted by FAO offices around the world and on FAO social media. Winning entries will also be featured in an exhibition at FAO headquarters in Rome.
The Contest is open to children and youth between the ages of 5 and 19, living anywhere in the world. Minors must have the permission of their parents or legal guardians to participate in the Contest.
Only one entry should be submitted per person. Poster entries may be drawn, painted or sketched using pens, pencils, crayons or charcoal, or using oil, acrylic or watercolour paint, as well as mixed media. Digitally created artwork is also permitted. No photographs are allowed. Poster entries may or may not include text. If text is used, no more than 25 words or 100 characters can be accepted. For Chinese and Japanese languages, the maximum number of characters permitted is 40. Languages permitted include: Languages permitted include: English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Italian and Japanese.
All artwork must be original and should not include photographic images of the Contestant or other personal information. Working on an A4 sheet or an 8 ½ inches by 11 inches sheet is recommended, for easier scanning; Those with larger posters should take a digital photo of the work and upload the photo file. Only digital files saved as a JPEG will be accepted.
Participants should read about the World Food Day theme in the World Food Day Activity Book before taking part.
